[Her expression falls for a second, but she picks herself up again soon enough.] No... No, I haven't seen anyone from home here yet. But it can still happen, right? I've just got to wait it out, and make sure that when they do get here, they'll have everything they need!
Almost everyone has a power in your world? Really? What sort of powers?
True love is... It's its own kind of magic, I think. Something strong and pure that brings out the best in people. Hate and fear can do a lot to people, but there's nothing that love can't fix! [...] And it breaks curses.
Oh... I'm sorry to hear that... but you're right, don't give up hope! You'll see them again for sure! Whether it's by going back home or whether it's them coming here, you never know, but you'll definitely see the people you care about again! We all will!
Oh it can be anything you can think of! There's so many different ones, it'd be impossible to name them all. [ And you've get him going on a nerd tangent he wouldn't be able to stop rambling on about hahaha! ]
Something strong and pure that brings out the best in people... Yeah, there's definitely some kind of magic about that. And power too! When people come together with those kinds of feelings in their hearts, I'm sure there's nothing they couldn't accomplish.
[She smiles brightly at all that optimism. That's right, she will see her family again, one way or another. That's just fact.]
Oooooh, anything you can think of? So... So does someone have the ability to conjure chocolate, maybe? Or to tell stories, and then those stories become real? Or maybe the power to turn stone into gold?
See! You get it! That's true love! It's the feeling that gives you the strength to overcome all obstacles.
A lunatic? Really? I've heard some say that he's a bad person who can't be trusted, but I've never heard anyone say something quite like that before...
[Anna almost feels like she asked something too forward when the leathers are unwrapped. Still, once the cones are visible, any second guesses are foregone and she stares.]
Whoahhh... Look at that. That's kinda cute, actually! I think I might like that better than my own ears. [She chuckles under her breath. She'd never trade her ears, but she can still appreciate others'!]
It is interesting, right? Apart from the trolls, I've met some elemental spirits too, but I don't know if you can call that a different species. They're spirits. One of them is pretty much literally the wind.
[Anna blinks, not sure if gorgeous is a word she'd use, but she can understand why it's better than cute. She smiles.]
I'd love to trade stories sometime! I'm really curious what other worlds are like.
And awww, thank you. [She runs a hand along the side of her head, pushing her hair back.] I never really think about how great it is to have hair. You can do all sorts of things with it. Like braid it, or roll it up into a bun...
I don't know... I still feel like that's a dangerous quest... Maybe next time, instead of flirting, you could try bringing five people gifts. Everyone loves gifts! And it can be a challenge to figure out what sort of gifts specifically people like.
Oh wow... I didn't think royal advisors could have that much influence. I have a steward who helps me with political things, so I guess that's sort of the same thing as a vizier? But I can't imagine him ever giving me bad advice. He loves Arendelle just as much as the rest of us.
[In fact, now that she's laid it out like that, she can't help but wonder...]
Did that Jafar person just not love your kingdom? Was he a spy?
I think you'd probably take those words back if you saw me mingling with a crowd a few years ago. Boy was I awkward. Plenty of fool making back then...
But it's alright! It was all valuable learning experiences. Now there's less fool making.
Anyway, you mentioned services. You mean like 'knight services'?
[ It is not for him to judge whether she was a fool or not, him of all people. Yet, he keeps what she says in mind, making no mention of it out of respect. ]
I see.
Indeed, that is what I mean. This place is fraught with dangers, and I would not see it as such during my time here as a knight. I feel I will squander my name if I do nothing to aid others in need, especially those of the royal families.
Awww, that's sweet of you. But I understand the sentiment. I know a former lieutenant who felt sort of the same way. He was still devoted to his duty, even after being locked in a magic forest for more than thirty years. We promoted him to general when he returned home and he took his place within the royal guard again as if nothing had happened.
But if something dangerous happens, I think you should help children and the elderly first. Because they'll have a lot more difficulty defending themselves, or getting somewhere safe.
[At first, Anna's impressed by the sentiment of 'living where more of the people are'. That does feel like a good strategy! But then the implication sinks in. Are there more people in a small farmer village than near the castle? Is the castle like Vaeros's; hidden away behind a huge labyrinth? That'd just feel lonely to Anna, and she's glad Zelda made the decision to mingle.
She'd ask for details, but she doesn't want to overstep any boundaries, so she'll talk about Arendelle instead. Only fair to share some things about her own kingdom!]
Oh yes, I do. There are a few villages outside the city, but they're mostly home to miner families who go up into the mountains to work. Arendelle has existed for many generations. There's an old legend that the fjord it's on was etched into the land by a magic sword wielded by Arendelle's founder, Lord Aren. He was probably my ancestor? It's hard to say, since he lived such a long time ago. But the castle that we live in is still pretty new. It was built during the reign of my grandfather, King Runeard. And Arendelle's a port city, so trade vessels from many different lands stop by to exchange goods! It's really... Just such a wonderful kingdom.
[For Zelda's part, she's more than happy to learn about another kingdom and its legends. It's all so different to Hyrule's own story, and the picture Anna paints is vivid.]
A magic sword... I wonder if that's true? We certainly have our own legendary weapons in our history. And having a castle by a port sounds wonderful, if you get to trade with other kingdoms.
[There are distant rumours of other lands beyond Hyrule, and Zelda knows there's at least one place far away where other Zora live. Most of what she knows however is confined to old stories from centuries ago. She smiles, heartened to hear of Anna's love for her kingdom.]
It can be hard to know history from our earliest times. Records from so many centuries ago can be difficult to find, much less read. I know from the research I did that our own people used to write in a different language, so translating what we could find from those eras was challenge enough. But I know that Hyrule has existed for many thousands of years.
Well... I do know some of the legends about Aren have gotten a little... misunderstood over time. But the sword is real! [She pauses, then smiles sheepishly.] It was real. My sister broke it when she tried to fight a nightmare monster. I think it was just a really pretty blade that became part of the myth.
[Aah, the wild adventures of official Frozen novels. Anna's glad she can talk about these sorts of things in an unfamiliar place and not be looked at like she's crazy. The people of Arendelle are used to magic by now, but she knows other lands wouldn't be so accepting of it.]
Hyrule's really existed thousands of years? Like... Maybe even tens of thousands? That's so long! I can't even imagine how much history and legend's been built up over that amount of time.
